Our Future Vision, Mission and Ministry Discernment Team has been working diligently to develop statements of Core Values, Vision and Mission for our church. Each one of these three pieces is a vital part of understanding who we are and who God is calling us to become, both as people of faith and as a church family.
A Core Values Statement is a description of those things that we believe God has put in our hearts as the foundations of the ways we understand and express our faith. In large measure, it is a statement of "who we are" as people of God in this particular church family.
A Vision Statement is a look out at the distant horizon. It is a glimpse of who we believe God is calling us to become. One of the themes we talked about in working on this statement is that we wanted to be sure that our vision was "big enough for God and long enough for eternity." Our vision is a future goal that we will not fully reach in any of our lifetime.
A Mission Statement connects Values and Vision. It is a way of saying, "We will take these values and pursue this vision by focusing on these key things." This Mission Statement will become a guiding light for us as we develop and evaluate our work together as a congregation.
Core Values Statement
We are a church...
that invites everyone to join us
in celebrating God's great love
as we joyfully accept Jesus' invitation
to feast with Him at the communion table;
Baptized into the faith and blessed by God's grace
we believe in the power of prayer and the eternal truth of scripture.
Grateful for God's ever-present love and care,
we care for others in faithful response to both
the "Great Commission" and "Great Commandment" of Jesus.
Vision Statement
Here at First Christian Church we are...
called to become followers of Jesus led by the Spirit,
inviting others to join us in experiencing God's love in action.
Mission Statement
Our mission is...
to grow disciples through deepening patterns of prayer
in individuals and as a family of faith,
to develop effective, Christ centered ministries
that call God's children of all ages and life stages
into an active, transformational walk with Jesus,
and to empower one another to demonstrate God's love
in action by engaging together in vital and visible outreach
from the Lord's Table into our community and around the world.
